Amnesty International has condemned the killing of social media political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, in Kano.
Amnesty International on its social media handles said, Dan Shagamuās body was found in a pool of blood at his residence in Gaida, Kano, on Wednesday.
The organisation alleged that the commentator, Dan shagamu, was brutally killed after being overpowered by his attackers.
In a statement, Amnesty International urged Nigerian authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that anyone suspected of involvement was brought to justice.
āIn a democracy, outspoken persons or critics are accommodated, listened to, not killed,ā the organisation said.
Amnesty International however, expressed concern over what it described as inadequate efforts by the Nigerian government, to prevent widespread killings, threats, intimidation and other serious human rights violations.
It said, such violations were occurring both within and outside the context of the upcoming elections.
The organisation also said, it continued to receive disturbing reports of politically related threats to life and intimidation as the elections approached.
It urged the authorities to take effective measures to protect lives, uphold freedom of expression and ensure accountability for attacks against political commentators and other critics.
