Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, a chieftain of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on the Kano State government, to immediately investigate the killing of renowned social media political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu.
Kwankwaso made the call in a statement, following the discovery of Dan Shagamu’s body in a pool of blood at his residence in Kano on Wednesday.
He described the killing as “horrific” and condemned the brutal attack on the political commentator.
He urged the state government to constitute an investigative panel, to thoroughly probe the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that those responsible were brought to justice.
The politician warned that failure by the authorities to take decisive and transparent action, would compel the incoming NDC administration to launch a full investigation upon assumption of office.
Slain political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Dan shagamuKwankwaso, an ex governor of Kano and former Defence Minister, said the incoming government would take all necessary steps to ensure that perpetrators were held accountable.
He further called on the state and Federal governments to protect opposition voices from threats, attacks and intimidation.
According to him, the Nigerian Constitution guarantees freedom of expression for all citizens and the right must be protected.
He urged the authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the killing and ensure that justice was served.
The politician then expressed condolences to the family, friends and followers of Dan Shagamu, praying Allah to grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
Premium Gazette reports that Dan shagamu issued a series of appeal for help from authorities and community leaders over prolonged threats to his life.
The father of six left behind an elder sister and a lot of relatives, he has been buried according to Islqmic rights, while Police in Kano confirmed that an investigation was launched to arrest his killers.
