ABUJA, June 15, 2026 – Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have successfully rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, following her abduction by bandits several weeks ago.
This was contained in a statement signed by Major General Samaila Uba, Director Defence Information and made available to newsmen on Monday.
It said that the rescue mission was achieved through intensified search-and-rescue operations conducted by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA, sustained offensive actions and increased pressure on the criminal elements led troops to Tunga Village, where contact was established with the bandits and Mrs. Abubakar was successfully recovered.
During the operation, the fleeing bandits reportedly shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her as advancing troops closed in on their position.
She was immediately evacuated to a military medical facility and is currently receiving treatment. Medical personnel have confirmed that she is responding positively to care.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring Mrs. Abubakar’s full recovery and are providing the necessary support to her family during this challenging period.
Meanwhile, troops have continued clearance and pursuit operations aimed at apprehending and neutralising the perpetrators.
The military also reiterated its determination to intensify efforts to eliminate terrorist and criminal elements threatening communities in Katsina State and across the country.
