Dutse, May 13, 2026

The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved over ₦875 million for the implementation of the Pretty Women Food Vendors Empowerment Programme, also known as the Jigawa Food Bank Initiative, aimed at supporting 27,000 vulnerable women across the state.

The approval was disclosed by the Jigawa State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Mr. Sagir Musa, shortly after the weekly Executive Council meeting held in Dutse.

According to the commissioner, the programme will cost a total of ₦875,965,650 and beneficiaries would be selected from polling units across the 27 local government areas of the state.

He explained that the initiative is a targeted social and economic empowerment programme designed to support vulnerable women involved in small-scale food-related petty trading.

Musa stated that the programme seeks to strengthen the livelihoods of the beneficiaries through structured support aimed at improving and sustaining their businesses.

He noted that the intervention reflects the commitment of Governor Malam Umar Namadi’s administration to inclusive economic growth, poverty reduction and women empowerment.

The commissioner further explained that the initiative would focus on grassroots women who play significant roles in household nutrition and local food supply chains, adding that the programme is expected to generate both economic and social benefits across communities in the state.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to prioritising policies and programmes that directly impact the lives of vulnerable citizens.

Musa also assured the public that the programme would be implemented with transparency, accountability and fairness to ensure that only deserving beneficiaries benefit from the initiative.
