The Jigawa State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty of a new Commissioner of Police, Haruna Alaba Yahaya, who has pledged to prioritize professionalism, intelligence-led policing, and respect for human rights in the state.
A statement signed by Shiius Adam, the force’s spokesperson, said Yahaya’s deployment followed a directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, marking a leadership transition aimed at strengthening security operations in Jigawa.
He took over from CP Dahiru Muhammad, who was promoted and redeployed to Zone 15 in Maiduguri.
The statement described Yahaya as a seasoned officer with over three decades of experience, who began his policing career in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.
“He holds a degree in Geography from the University of Jos and has built an extensive career spanning operations, investigations, and administration across multiple commands nationwide.
“Before his latest posting, he served as Commissioner of Police, General Investigation, at the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Lagos, where he handled high-profile cases and strategic operations.
“His track record also includes key roles in Borno, Enugu, Lagos, Kebbi, and at the INTERPOL National Central Bureau in Abuja, underscoring his depth in intelligence and security coordination,” it said.
It further disclosed that upon assuming office, Yahaya underscored the importance of collaboration between security agencies and the public, stressing that effective policing depends on trust, information sharing, and active community participation.
He thus reiterated his commitment to proactive policing strategies and safeguarding citizens’ rights while tackling crime.
According to the statement, The new commissioner also called on residents, traditional and religious leaders, to support law enforcement efforts by providing credible intelligence, assuring that the command remains resolute in protecting lives and property.
The Police Command in its statement, further reassured residents of its continued dedication to maintaining law and order, urging vigilance and timely reporting of suspicious activities as part of a collective effort to enhance security across Jigawa State.
