The Kano State Police Command has confimed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the fatal stabbing of Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu at Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Kano.
Kiyawa said the incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, when unknown hoodlums forcibly entered the deceased’s residence and attacked him with sharp objects.
He said operatives of the Kumbotso Police Division responded to a distress call from the Gaida Vigilante Group Commander.
According to him, the victim was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialists Hospital, Kano, for emergency medical attention.
He said the victim was, however, confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor.
Kiyawa said the arrests followed an intelligence-driven operation, ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
He said the operation was conducted by the Kumbotso Divisional Police Officer, in collaboration with tactical units and community stakeholders.
“The suspects are currently in custody undergoing interrogation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other persons who may be connected with the crime,” he said.
The police spokesman said statements were being obtained and forensic procedures conducted to establish the circumstances and motive behind the attack.
He quoted Bakori as expressing concern over the incident and extending condolences to the family of the deceased.
The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to identifying, arresting and prosecuting perpetrators of violent crimes.
“The Kano State Police Command will not relent in its mandate to protect lives and property.
“We assure the good people of Kano that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion,” Bakori was quoted as saying.
Kiyawa said the command appreciated the Gaida Vigilante Group, for promptly providing information that facilitated the police response.
He said additional patrols and intelligence-gathering operations had been deployed to Gaida and surrounding areas to maintain law and order.
He urged residents to remain vigilance and provide credible information to the police through the nearest station or the command’s emergency lines.
Kiyawa said, investigation into the incident is ongoing and that the suspects would be charged to court after its conclusion.
