No fewer than 3,000 applicants have applied for 500 teaching positions in Tsangaya schools throug Computer-Based Test (CBT) examination conducted by Jigawa State Tsangaya Education Board.
Dr Abubakar Maje, Executive Secretary of the board, made this known to journalists after inspection the exercise in Dutse.
Maje said the CTB examination was being conducted to select competent teachers that will teach in various tsangaya schools across the state.
He explained that the exercise is part of the Gov. Umar Namadi’s unwavering commitment towards the development of Tsangaya education in the by approving the 500 teachers to teach the Qur’an and conventional subjects.
“The board intends to recruit 250 Alarammas, 150 NCE graduates and 100 university graduates. This will create a balance in teaching and learning in both Mega, Model, and Integrated Tsangaya Schools across the state.
“It is in view of this the board has successfully conducted a CBT examination for shortlisted candidates seeking engagement under the Jigawa Tsangaya Programme,” he said.
The executive secretary said the examination was conducted simultaneously at three designated centres, including Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State College of Education Gumel and Binyaminu Usman Polytechnic Hadejia.
According to him, the examination was conducted peacefully and in an orderly, transparent and well-coordinated manner.
“The J-Tsangaya programme forms part of his excellency’s ongoing efforts to reform, strengthen and modernize the Almajiri education system to ensure that learners receive improved and quality education outcome.
The exercise therefore represents a significant milestone in the state’s continuing strive to build a more organized, inclusive and sustainable Tsangaya education system.
“The CBT examination is to ensure that only credible and competent candidates are selected. And that’s why only 3,150 out of the 9,000 that applied were shortlisted for the exam and only 500 will selected based on the result of their examinations,” the executive secretary said.
Maje added that the recruitment is of two categories, those that will teach conventional subjects-english language, mathematics and computer science, were the ones that participated in the CBT examination.
He explained that those that will teach Quranic studies based on tsangaya system (Alarammas), will be thoroughly screened to ensure that they are competent enough for the job.
According to him, at the end of the exercise, successful applicants will be deployed to the three mega, seven model and 130 integrated tsangaya schools across the state.
Maje however, assured that unsuccessful candidates would be given an opportunity when next the government recruits teachers since their data have been cantured and stored.
