Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the constitution of a State Committee on Nutrition to improve public health and enhance service delivery through technology and the procurement of 1,500 Android tablets to strengthen education data management.
The state Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, Mr Sagir Musa disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing newsmen in the outcome of the state Executive Council.
He said the approvals were granted in accordance with the state government’s commitment to advancing coordinated nutrition interventions and accelerating digital reforms in the basic education sector.
According to him, “The newly constituted Committee is expected to provide strategic leadership, policy coordination and oversight for the planning and implementation of nutrition programmes through a multi-sectoral approach.
“It was established to strengthen collaboration among relevant ministries, departments and agencies in tackling malnutrition, particularly among vulnerable women and children.
“It will also ensure sustained attention to nutrition-related issues,” the Commissioner highlighted.
Mr Musa revealed that the committee will be chaired by the Commissioner for Health, with membership drawn from the Ministries of Water Resources, Environment, Local Government, Women Affairs and Budget.
Other members include the Special Adviser to the Governor on Nutrition and the Director-General of the Jigawa Agricultural Transformation Agency, while the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Agency will serve as Secretary.
He further explained that the committee would promote coordinated planning, efficient utilisation of resources and effective implementation of nutrition policies aimed at improving health outcomes and building a healthier society.
The Council according to Musa, has approved the award of a ₦283.24 million contract for the procurement and supply of 1,500 Android tablets to support the statewide rollout of the Basic Education Management Information System (BEMIS).
The tablets he said, will be deployed to improve real-time data collection and management across the state’s basic education sector, enabling timely and accurate information on school enrolment, infrastructure, teacher deployment and other critical education indicators.
“The initiative will strengthen evidence-based planning, policy formulation, monitoring and resource allocation, while enhancing transparency and accountability in education governance.
“The expansion of the BEMIS platform reflects the government’s commitment to deploying technology-driven solutions to improve service delivery and ensure that every child has access to quality basic education supported by reliable data,” he stressed.
