The Management of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has clarified that Dr. Nasa’i Gwadabe, whose name has featured in recent social media reports, is no longer affiliated with the institution, following the expiration of his one-year appointment as a visiting lecturer in May 2026.
In a statement issued on Friday, the university explained that Dr. Gwadabe, who is a staff member of North West University, Kano, served as a visiting lecturer at MAAUN under a one-year appointment that was not renewed after its expiration.
The management stated that appointments of visiting lecturers are for one year and are renewable only on the basis of satisfactory performance, institutional needs and management approval.
It noted that Dr. Gwadabe’s appointment ended alongside those of several other visiting lecturers whose contracts were also not renewed.
The university also reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment, stressing that it operates a zero-tolerance policy against sexual harassment, abuse and exploitation.
According to the statement, the institution has consistently communicated the policy to members of its academic community and has introduced measures to encourage the reporting of misconduct.
It added that the university’s Founder had instituted a ₦5 million reward for any female student who reports and provides credible evidence of sexual harassment or assault by any lecturer or staff member through the appropriate channels.
The management further dismissed claims circulating on social media that a student was delayed in graduation for two years, describing the allegation as false.
It explained that MAAUN had only recently graduated its first set of students, making such claims inaccurate.
The university also refuted reports alleging that a postgraduate student was among the victims, noting that it had yet to commence postgraduate programmes.
It therefore urged members of the public and media organisations to verify information before publication and to refrain from describing Dr. Gwadabe as a current staff member of the university.
The management reaffirmed MAAUN’s commitment to the principles of integrity, transparency, accountability and academic excellence.
