Dutse, Tuesday June 23, 2026 -Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the award of N273.29 million contract for the construction of 20 greenhouse facilities across 10 local government areas, to promote youth empowerment, modern agriculture and sustainable livelihoods.
Mr Sagir Musa, the state Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, made this known on Tuesday while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state weekly executive council meeting in Dutse.
He said that the council members endorsed the construction of 20 Type II greenhouses at a total cost of N273,293,272.50 simultaneously.
The project he said, will be implemented in Birnin Kudu, Gumel, Kafin Hausa, Kiyawa, Kirikasamma, Jahun, Malam Madori, Roni, Taura and Sule Tankarkar Local Government Areas.
According to him, “the initiative aims at consolidating the gains of an extensive training, undertaken by 82 youths from across the state, in modern soilless farming techniques, at the Soilless Farm Lab in Abeokuta.
“The greenhouse facilities are expected to provide practical platforms for the trained youths, to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the programme, particularly in controlled-environment agriculture and high-value crop production,” he said.
The Commissioner however, noted that the project will support year-round agricultural production, enhance food security and promote agribusiness entrepreneurship among young people in the state.
He stressed that the initiative would also create sustainable income-generating opportunities and improve the living standards of beneficiaries, through access to modern farming technologies and practical agricultural skills.
It was gathered that the greenhouse project, forms part of the state government’s broader strategy to modernise agriculture, increase productivity and create employment opportunities for youths across Jigawa State.
