The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the release of ₦216,662,200 for the commencement of a Free JAMB Support Programme under the Danmodi Student Care Initiative, in a move aimed at expanding access to higher education across the state.
This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, Mr Sagir Musa, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the weekly executive council meeting held in Dutse.
He said that the approval underscores the administration’s commitment to improving educational opportunities, particularly for students from less privileged backgrounds and marginalised communities.
The initiative he stressed, is designed to remove financial barriers associated with registration for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), enabling more eligible candidates to participate.
“Under the programme, beneficiaries will receive free JAMB registration PINs, alongside pre-JAMB coaching and preparatory training to enhance their chances of success in the examination.
“The intervention is expected to significantly increase the number of Jigawa students pursuing tertiary education, aligning with the government’s broader agenda of leveraging education as a catalyst for sustainable development and socio-economic growth,” he said.
Mr Musa further reaffirmed that the programme will be implemented with strict transparency and accountability measures, to ensure that only eligible beneficiaries are reached and that public resources deliver maximum impact.
