Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Nafisa Usman, for allegedly supplying ammunition to terrorists in Katsina State.
Premium Gazette reports that the suspect was apprehended at a major motor park in Kano shortly after purchasing the ammunition from Nasarawa State for onward delivery to Kankara area of Katsina.
According to security sources, the suspect, who hails from Zango village in Kankara Local Government Area, was intercepted in possession of 200 rounds of ammunition concealed inside bags of garri and rice.
During interrogation, Nafisa reportedly confessed that the consignment was sourced from Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, and transported to Unguwa Uku motor park in Kano for onward movement to Katsina.
She further disclosed that she had been involved in the illicit trade for about two months, adding that a man identified as “Teso,” allegedly working with a soldier in Lafia, usually supplies her with the ammunition.
The suspect also alleged that the items were delivered to a bandit leader identified as Mallam Haruna, said to be operating within the Kankara forest.
She claimed that she was introduced to the bandit by one Sulaiman, a livestock trader based in Kano.
Nafisa added that she had carried out transactions worth about N5 million, supplying ammunition to Haruna and other individuals identified as Buba and Abu, also believed to be operating in the forest.
The suspect, however, expressed regret over her involvement, stating that she had now been exposed.
Efforts to get an official reaction from the DSS were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
