According to him, the essence is to build an understanding of reading and Mathematical ability of the children in the early grade level in Jigawa.
“It is also to understand how teachers are teaching and know if they are following the right procedure taught by UNICEF and other educational bodies or not,” said the consultant.
Dr Aliyu further added that if there are gaps, then it will serve as an avenue for retraining and policy making or even attract a change of the curriculum as a whole.
“We trained 67 participants who will go to the field and collect reliable and valid data for policy making that supports education system in Jigawa”, the consultant said.
It was gathered that, UNICEF is supporting education system in Jigawa and Nigeria for many years on teacher training, provision of learning and teaching materials.
The training reinforces the commitment of the European Union and Jigawa state government to improving learning outcomes and ensuring that every child acquires foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
The Education and Youth Empowerment (EU-EYE) project is critical for children’s long-term academic success according to the consultant.
