The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved key initiatives aimed at advancing environmental sustainability and improving healthcare infrastructure across the state.
The State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, Mr Sagir Musa made this known at a briefing after the weekly state executive council meeting in Dutse on Tuesday.
He said that the Council had endorsed the participation of the State Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in the Green Nigeria Challenge, Jigawa State Edition, a programme designed to promote afforestation, combat desertification, and strengthen biodiversity conservation.
He explained that the initiative is also expected to galvanize community participation in environmental protection, while positioning Jigawa as a critical player in national and global climate action efforts.
Mr Musa noted that the programme would serve as a strategic platform to restore degraded lands and deepen the state’s resilience to climate change.
“To ensure effective implementation, the Ministry will collaborate with local communities, development partners, and civil society organisations, fostering a multi-stakeholder approach to environmental sustainability,” he stressed.
In a related development he said, the Council had also approved additional works for the ongoing Cryogenic Oxygen Plant project in Dutse, reinforcing the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery systems.
The new approvals Musa said, includes the supply of digital oxygen and nitrogen cylinders, alongside electric vehicles to enhance the plant’s operational efficiency and distribution network.
“The expansion is expected to significantly improve access to life-saving medical oxygen across health facilities in the state,” the Commissioner highlighted.
The twin decisions underscored the administration’s focus on sustainable development, combining environmental stewardship with critical investments in public health infrastructure.
