NRCS mobilises stakeholders to operationalise Jigawa’s Disaster Resiilience Plan

Nigerian Red Cross Society(NRCS), has conducted a one-day multi-stakeholder workshop, to operationalise Jigawa State’s disaster resilience plan.

In a presentation held at Dutse Royal Hotel on Thursday,  Mr Timothy Ali of the NRCS, explained that Jigawa is a state with multiple disasters and therefore need to be proactive.

He explained that the workshop was organised as a wake up call to operationalize sthe state’s disaster preparedness and identify multi stakeholder roles.

According to him, “The workshop is tagged moving from development to delivery, aims at coordinating hubs like the State Emergency Management Agency(JISEMA) and the Local Emergency Management Committees (LEMC).

“It is an effort to provide all stakeholders with a platform to identify their roles and align with it, to execute their individual roles in fulfilling our collective corporate responsibilities,” Mr Alli said.

In his remarks, Director Planning, Jigawa state Emergency Management Agency, Mr Bala Muhammad, said there is need for the state to be proactive in view of the 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction(SCP).

He said that the SCP he said, revealed that Jigawa, is amongst the many states to witness early onset of rainfall in 2026, stressing that Jigawa has suffered flooding many years ago.

During the training, stakeholders at the workshop identified their roles and were commitment to the course of disaster and risk management, noting that they would be available to offer humanitarian services.

Representatives of local government chairmen, officers from National Emergency Management Agency, State Emergency Management Agency, Civil society organisations and the Media attended the event.

The event was a collaboration between the Nigeria Redcross Society(NRCS), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and funded by the European Union (EU).
