Jigawa state governor Umar Namadi, has expressed confidence in upholding high standards to ensure that Dutse International Airport is rated amongst the best in Nigeria.
A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Hamisu Gumel made this known on Monday.
Namadi in the statement said that his administration would continue to do its best to ensure that all necessary facilities at the airport are operational and up to standard.
As part of his administration’s resolve to transform Dutse International Airport into a cargo hub, the state government has secured approval from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), to begin the installation of cargo facilities at the airport.
The governor gave the highlights when he received a technical team from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), who were in Dutse on a routine facility inspection and calibration mission.
While interacting with the NAMA team, Namadi reiterated on the importance of adhering to aviation’s best practices.
“Today is an important day for us in our efforts to ensure that all airport facilities in Jigawa State operate in accordance with best practices,” the governor said.
He commended the airport management for their proactive approach to safety through the calibration process.
“We have been in discussions with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, and they have already granted us approval to begin installing cargo facilities at the airport, in preparation for the full launch of the cargo airport.”
“Today, we can proudly say that this is one of the best airports in Nigeria and we will continue to uphold this standard,” Namadi stressed.
Speaking earlier, the NAMA team leader Mr Jim Hassan, explained their mission’s objective, noting that they were in Dutse “specifically to check the navigational aids and ensure compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization standards.”
Mr Hassan further revealed that following the inspection, the team will assess the performance of equipment to certify optimal operations.
