Tinubu Commends Wike Over APC Gains in FCT Elections

President Bola Tinubu has commended Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for his “remarkable achievements” in the territory, saying they have translated into political gains for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s elections.

In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu congratulated the winners of the elections conducted in the FCT, Kano, and Rivers states.

“President Bola Tinubu congratulates the winners of Saturday’s elections in the Federal Capital Territory and the states of Kano and Rivers,” the statement read.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted elections in the six area councils of the FCT, alongside by-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers, and in Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano.

The statement added, “The President urges the winners to serve with humility, patriotism, and dedication and to view the mandate given to them by the people as a sacred trust.”

Tinubu also extended his congratulations to the APC national leadership, as well as the party’s leadership and members in Kano and Rivers states, for the victories.

“He commends the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his remarkable achievements in the territory, which have yielded political dividends to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC),” the statement said.

The President further lauded INEC, security agencies, and voters for the peaceful conduct of the elections, adding, “He commends the courage and discipline displayed by all the contestants, stating that democracy is enriched with the vibrancy of participation and competition.”

Tinubu described the successful elections as a boost to democratic culture and institutions, and called on INEC to continue improving its efforts to deliver “even more exemplary electoral processes.”

Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former governor of Rivers State, was appointed FCT Minister by Tinubu despite being in the opposition party. His involvement in the APC-led administration has drawn criticism within the PDP, with some members accusing him of undermining the party’s interests.
